Community Services

City Council is proposing severe budget reductions to our community services, cuts so deep that they threaten to tear the fabric of our community.

Please, tell your city councillor that cuts to community services hurt us all.

Kids Count

In January, City Council is being asked to cut student nutrition programs, eliminate dozens of swim and recreation programs, close wading and outdoor pools, shut down 10 arenas during off peak hours, cut childcare and reduce youth outreach services across the City.

Please send a message calling on your Councillor to vote against these cuts.

The Hardship Fund

Mayor Ford and 22 City Councillors – just enough to carry the day – have voted to consider eliminating the City of Toronto Hardship Fundin the 2012 city budget.

Thankfully, their decision still requires another vote before the decision is final.

It’s not too late to save the Hardship Fund.

The TTC

Please help us stop public transit cuts that will gridlock our streets.  Take action now.

Public transit budget cuts and service reductions will have the effect of putting millions more cars back on Toronto’s roads, adding significantly to gridlock, energy waste, greenhouse gas emissions and climate change.

Send a message to your city councilor to demand how this can be a cost saving.

Heritage Museums

For years, our city has served as custodian of significant heritage properties, preserving important parts of Toronto’s story from the earliest days of our city and making that history available to all today.

To save a few bucks, City Council may discard this important mission and walk away from our history by abandoning four heritage museums operated by the City.

Please call on your Councillor to keep the doors to our heritage open.

The Arts

Please take action in support of Toronto’s vibrant arts scene

Toronto City Council plans to make deep cuts to the city budget, and this puts arts and cultural funding at serious risk. Cutting the arts could be an economic and social catastrophe for Toronto: not only does the city achieve a huge return on a relatively small investment, but our vibrant arts scene is also a big part of what makes Toronto a great place to live, work and visit.

Please send a message to urge your councillor to reject cuts to arts funding.
