The fabric of our community is at risk

Most of us would never slam the door on a neighbor in need.  It is in the fabric of our community to care for one another.

Woven into that fabric is the Community Partnership and Investment Program (CPIP).

Through CPIP, almost 1,000 community social service and arts organizations support our neighbours with programs from nutrition and recreation for children to meals on wheels for senior citizens.

Even when times are tough, Torontonians have found a way to help through smart investments in CPIP.  For every dollar of city funding, other governments, businesses, the United Way, Foundations, and individuals contribute another ten  dollars, for a total investment of almost half a billion dollars in the network of supports and services for Toronto residents.

City Council is proposing severe budget reductions to CPIP, cuts so deep that they threaten to tear the fabric of our community.

Since City funding is often the base from which other funding is secured, the impact of this cut will be magnified many times.  Services to vulnerable individuals and communities will be cut or reduced, creating increased demand on other services such as health and the criminal justice system.

Please, tell your city councillor that cuts to community services hurt us all.
